jet lagged… exploring new york (day1)

July 19, 2009 erikray 3 comments

to prevent jet lag, they say that one should stay awake as much as possible if arriving in the nighttime or sleep if arriving when the sun is still up. but knowing me, i’m gonna sleep a lot anyway. had a lot of catching up with my sleep too.

turns out, it was no problem anyway. i still slept the night and majority of the next day. so, maybe i wasn’t experiencing any trouble at all. except, i woke up really really early the next day (around 2 am) and couldn’t sleep at all. at around 4, i decided to read the economics book i have been carrying around for a while now. didn’t think much of the lack of sleep, decided i could just catch up on lost sleep anytime.

anyway, my uncle (clueless of my lack of sleep) asked me to try to stay awake the day so i would adjust to the time zone. his bright idea? we tour new york. so my dad, my uncle, and i took the subway to new york and try to get a tour.

the word’s out

Leonard: She (Penny) thinks I’m too smart for her. That’s ridiculous.

Sheldon: I know. Most of your work are highly derivative. Don’t worry, that’s not a secret. Everybody knows.

(Big Bang Theory Season 2 Episode 1: Bad Fish Paradigm)

This was the conversation between Leonard Hofstadter and a ‘drugged’ Sheldon Cooper regarding Penny and Sheldon’s secret. Don’t recognize any of the names i mentioned? Watch the ‘Big Bang Theory‘. I love this show. The new season can’t come soon enough.

What has this quote have to do with anything? Nothing, really. Just remembered this scene when i planned to start this post with ‘everybody knows.’ a sure sign that i’m certified addict. :p watched every episode about 10 times.

anyway, let’s head away from the filler texts and resume my ‘countdown.’

the countdown begins

June 1, 2009 erikray Leave a comment

still have a month but i have started packing. well sort of.

with the dorm undergoing renovations next month, we have been ‘kicked out’ of our old rooms. many of our dormmates had to move to another dorm for the time being. meanwhile, the ‘oldies’ (those who have stayed in the dorm for a longer time) can call dibs on the remaining rooms.

with more than 3 years of service to philrice, i am official ancient. :p anyway, with my moving to a new room, i have decided to start categorizing my stuff: to bring, to throw out, and to give away.

exploring davao (people’s park only :p)

May 4, 2009 erikray Leave a comment

judging by the recent posts, this is turning into a travel blog. hehehe

had the opportunity to travel to davao the other week. it is technically my second time to set foot in this really clean city but the first time, i only saw the hotel, an intenet shop, and the airport. we just dropped by davao to take the plane back to manila.

anyway, since this was an official trip, didn’t get the chance to see any of the famous tourist destinations, except people’s park.

devcomm at chocolate hills, bohol

a hill, by itself, is unremarkable. who has not seen this mound of earth? but place 1,268 perfectly cone-shaped hills of about the same size, spread over an area of more than 50 square kilometres and you got an incredible site. no wonder the chocolate hills are famous. add all the other attractions in bohol and you got a tourism paradise, making it the perfect destination for the devcomm division summer getaway. welcome to bohol!

been to romblon :)

March 18, 2009 erikray 1 comment

while romblon was never in my “to go to” list, i still felt a certain excitement at the chance of visiting this island province. romblon is the philippines’ leading producer of high-quality marble, which, according to wikipedia, is comparable with the marble produced by italy. nope wasn’t excited because of the marble. not planning of building a monument. well, at least not yet. :p

seair

fly seair... :)

we were heading to the municipality of calatrava in tablas island. tablas is only 45 minutes by light aircraft. riding a 32-seater donier 328 aircraft instead of the usual airbus may be a big reason why i was dying to take the trip. i really did not know what to expect in romblon so its great that just the flight would make the trip worth taking. :D
