the longest day: blogging from tokyo

after more than a year, i am back in the birthplace (country) of my blog. although here for just 3 hours, barring any major delay. i hope there wont be.

and im using my favorite japanese phrase again – wakarimasen (i dont understand). although now i have an eigo onegai shimasu (english please) to back it up. hehe. hope i spelled them correctly. im pretty sure i pronounced them right though.

anyway, why am i saying that today, the 12th july would be the longest day ever?

but first, a flashback (INSERT MUSIC HERE. BLUR TRANSTION. hehe)

11 july 2009. the day before my flight, was actually up and about instead of resting, which i should have done.

i woke up at 6 am -ridiculously early for me to prepare for an 8:00 appointment with friends from philrice. had to commute from the condo at taguig to the mcdonalds in front of trinoma in quezon city. took a tricycle, jeep, bus, and the mrt, in that order. whew! fortunately, i was quite lucky that day. didn’t have to wait long for the next mode of transport.

we watched ice age 3: dawn of the dinosaurs in 3d. felt it was too long but then again, my bladder became full halfway through the movie so i couldn’t wait for it to end. hehe. the plot was predictable but hey, tried and tested formula couldn’t hurt their box office returns.

then, had to buy a a big suitcase for my stuff (yes, i waited until the last minute to pack), a bathroom scale so i can prevent excess baggage fees (did great by the way. 22 kg! limit is 23 for the 2 bags for check in).

then, met with a close friend from leyte. then bought stuff again. didn’t reach the condo and start packing until past 9pm.

anyway, after midnight, was finally able to finish everything i had to do and sleep.

12 july 2009 (today). woke up at 4am since we had to leave the condo at 5am so i can be at the airport 3 hours before the scheduled flight. was a bit worried my ticket mishap would be a problem (had an M instead of an S as my middle initial) but no sweat. although i did call Japan Airlines weeks before and they said that it wouldn’t be a problem.

the check in counters were not open yet so had to wait a bit. then, everything went smoothly. enjoyed texting for a while. that’s saying a lot because i usually don’t text much. hehehe.

as usual, slept a lot in the plane. but unlike the first time i rode JAL where i woke up and everybody was already eating, i totally woke up at lunch serving time. yehey!!!

when we arrived at tokyo, had to change boarding passes. already had both passes from naia. forgot to ask why we had to change. hehe

went in circles for a bit looking for my gate. left to look for a wifi hotspot (that didn’t charge) and found the yahoo cafe where internet is free! have a bit of trouble with the japanese keyboard though but no biggie. stared at the keyboard for a while looking for the ‘@’.

anyway, getting a bit hungry now so would probably look for food after posting this. hehe

now, why is today the longest day? sorry if i rambled for a while there. hehe. my story does not have anything to do with it. hehe

well, my flight leaves at 6:20 pm (tokyo time) but i still arrive 6:20 pm at new york on the same day (july 12). total travel time from manila is 21 hrs 5 minutes.

but you can actually look at it as time travel, teleportation. in the words of hiro nakamura – “yatta!!!” and he did teleport from tokyo to new york the first time he did it in heroes.
