welcome to palawan (day1)

palawan

after seeing just endless stretches of rice fields, I’ve finally had a change of scenery. Although the main itinerary still involves rice fields, the side trips got me to see some of the tourist destinations palawan is famous for.

i welcome you to palawan. :)

Since nobody could come to fetch me at at airport, i had to take a tricycle to the provincial capitol building. Got a good insider tip from the guard though – do not take the tricycle (or any ‘for hire’ vehicles) waiting inside the airport vicinity. just take a few steps out to the main road and hail a tricycle and pay only the minimum fee. “it will just take about 3 minutes.”

it was this “three minutes” comments that led me to thinking, maybe i could walk. i asked someone also waiting for a trike if i could do just that. turns out, three minutes was an over-underestimation. but since she saw me as a naive stranger in palawan for the first time, she paid for my fare. just the first display of palawan hospitality.

after routine activities and the first interview in the Office of the Provincial Agriculture, we were off to Brooke’s Point, a municipality in the southern part of Palawan.

brooke's point

Trivia: Did you know that Brooke’s Point is the origin of the largest pearl in the world – The Pearl of Allah. The 14-pound pearl measures 9.4 inches long. More of that here.
