reflections for the holy week

it has been a practice for many “hardworking” people to use the holy week to take a break – to have fun, have a vacation. as a friend put it, “it is not because its the holy week, it’s because it is the only time you have.”
but having no work does not mean that one has a break. it gives us time to celebrate the holy week as a time for reflection and renewal.
NOTE: nothing against having fun. just don’t forget to save some time to reflect.

According to the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), it is important to reflect and “ask yourself ‘Where has God been in my life today?”
“I invite you then to enter into the spirit of Holy Week prayerfully, reflectively, remembering that that our life is not all work, and making only a living … but it is made up also of life in the spirit … remembering that whatever we do must be focused on God,” said CBCP president Archbishop Angel Lagdameo.

also, check out this blog. it asks, if Jesus was alive during our time, would we also send him to the cross?

lastly, i would like to emphasize the point given by our priest last sunday, Jesus on the cross is my medal. it is not a sign of his weakness but his triumph. with his dying on the cross, he conquered sin.
Greater love has no one for this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. - John 15:13

Paul said the preaching of the cross is foolishness to those who perish, but for those of us who are being saved it is the power of God. Jesus’s death on the cross looks to the world like defeat; it looks like evil has won, and Death will be victorious. So to claim the cross as our victory, that appears foolish to the unbeliever. But Paul goes on to say that God planned it this way to confuse the wise of this world. The foolishness of God is greater than the wisdom of man.
