living in japan class

August 31, 2007 erikray Leave a comment

had living in japan class today. just a two hour session to talk about some japanese customs.

there were only 12 slots for the class and since those who signed exceeded the number, the names were electronically drawed. and since i NEVER had my name picked in a raffle draw, i was not part of the original class. i thought, i’l try again next month.

special project part 1

August 31, 2007 erikray Leave a comment

today, we wrapped up the activities for the editing subject a day earlier than scheduled. the rest of the time alloted for the subject will be for practice.

however, our teacher, kyuna-sensei, had a very clever way of keeping those who can edit quite well (due mainly to past experience or job) interested in class. we (yes, i was part of the group – with gonzalo, jay, and david) were tasked to make a “this is oic” video to replace the video currently used in the exercise.

first, we edited the script. we didn’t want to change the original “story” though. it was kept very simple – just to have a cuts, fades, insets, and texts during the exercise. we did check grammar though. although some sentences i am not sure of, they just sound weird. hehehe

stairs

stairs

60 steps. thats the number of steps in this stairway. this connects the dormitory bulding, which is on top of a hill, to the cafeteria. that’s my main problem. its hard to walk up any stairway – being full is the additional burden. fortunately, i haven’t heard of anyone having appendicitis here. hehehe

by the way, i also pass here when i go to classes since the main building is next to the cafeteria.

Words of wisdom for this one? “one step at a time”? hehehe

doors

because i don’t have something new to tell, let me tell  you about the doors here at oic. weird subject huh? all the buildings here are connected by some sort of corridor.  and there are doors to keep the aircon in (at least i think thats their purpose.) anyway, i think they have motion sensors so they can open when you pass. i like the feeling of walking towards it and them opening by themselves. makes me feel like magneto (x-men villain). :p

or maybe im just too “barriotic.” (is there such a term? anyway, inside joke. hahaha).

my weekend

August 26, 2007 erikray Leave a comment

loved my saturday. know what i did? nothing! hahaha. i just love lazy days. just watching tv or sleeping.

at around 4 pm, we left for kadena airbase. we spent the night at the house of sir dante and ate jing solis at kadena airbase. they are filipinos who have been living here for quite a while. i also met mang meng, another filipino staying here at okinawa. if i am not mistaken, he has been here for almost 30 years.

at their house, we just eat or watch tv or play with dane, their 7 year old son.

we also had our pictures taken with the different planes of the US air force. plane1 plane2 plane3

also went to barclays court. because of the expensive taxi fare, we walked to oic. 30-45 minutes. my feet are a little sore. hehehe. barclays court

care to bowl?

August 24, 2007 erikray Leave a comment

when i hear bowling, the first thing that pops in my head is fred flintstones. it just love the scene in the cartoon show where he tiptoes lightly before he finally throws the bowling bowl in the alley. and when only two pins are left on either side, he knocks down both by throwing the ball high to split it into two. beat that paeng?

anyway, it was my first time to play bowling. make it my first time to enter a bowling alley. my class and our teachers had our first class outing today. i forgot the name of the place. hehe. group pic

first, we rented shoes for 300 yen. a question, why do bowling shoes need to be in bright neon colors? my bowling shoes

although the game sounds simple, i know its not as easy as it seems. i was right. for the first game, i got only a low score of 68. last among the four in our alley. make that 3, our teacher, tokumura -sensei played for 2. i did not even knock down all the pins in any round. poor me right?

second round, i was getting the hang of it. imagine my excitement when i had my first strike at round 7. i could not believe it. hahaha. i had another strike at round 9 and another at round 10. my score was 154, second only to one. beginner’s luck? i’d wish not. but it was most likely it. (btw, the first placer was also a beginner. score:168)

my thumb’s a little sore but it was fun. can’t wait to try it again, and see if i can really bowl. bowling
